Bosilika An Get's All Dolled Up In Li Cari

licari
licari Feb 08, 2012

This amazing young lady named Bosilika An, is known as the 'Teen Philanthropista' Bosilika and has been taught compassion for others, bravery to challenge social rules and stigmas and that it is her civil responsibility to do the most she can with the fortunate luck she has been given. Today, she focuses her efforts on encouraging other teens to get involved in their communities by acting as The CEO of the BASH Organization and The Event Coordinator of The BASH Event

She came by my showroom and I styled her in a few different looks, she was so sweet and it was a pleasure getting to dress her up! I hope to style a fashion show for a BASH event in the future.

Here are the final photos from the shoot!

If you had to pick one of these looks for Bosilika to wear on a Valentines Day date, what look would it be?

Biggest Fashion Don't

licari
licari Jan 23, 2012

As a designer I see SO many horrible fashion faux pas, but I think the biggest one is following trends and not your body type. Just because something may be a fad does not mean it looks good on EVERYONE. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and we should dress to flatter them. Just changing the fit of your clothing can make you go from a total mess to BEST DRESSED.

A few trends that come to mind are:

1] The Crop Top

Not everyone can pull this off. You can layer it with a tank under so it can look more flattering on more body types. However this trend is very bold and made for a long lean body.

2] Strappy Shoes

I think one of the most unflattering thing is when girls with thick legs and ankles wear heels that have any sort of trap of detail around the ankle. Also, if you are short it cuts the leg and makes you look even shorter.

3] Leggings With A Print

This hot item has girls lookin' a mess!! If you don't have stick thin legs I think this trend looks awful. Print in general is very hit or miss, put them on skin tight leggings and you have a big problem on your hands... or should i say legs.

4] Form Fitting Dresses

Not all of us have that perfect hourglass figure. Or a flat tummy. This is a trend I'm seeing all over the place and it looks horrible on 50% of the girls. I see these style dresses at stores like H&M and Forever21. Girls wear them to clubs, events,on dates and It just hugs the body a little too much.

5] Cat Eye Sunglasses

Not everyone has the same shape face. Glasses are very personal to the type of face you have: long, round, heart, square. You should find glasses that are not in style, but ones that compliment your features.

Make sure to follow your body, not the fads! You will look timeless and amazing- trust me! :)

Everyone is guilty of wearing things just because they are a 'hot item'  but first think about what it looks like on YOU personally.

Can you think of any other trends like these?

Discrimination: Britney Spears Vs Beyonce

licari
licari Jan 18, 2012

I really think it's crazy and unfair that the media and everyone tortures Britney Spears saying how FAT she is and how she looks so horrible, yet Beyonce is just as thick...if not bigger!! Why is it okay for Beyonce to be a normal healthy weight but not okay for Britney (that already had two kids) I get so annoyed when I see Beyonce in magazines in ONLY a positive light and the only things about Britney are negative about her appearance. The media just picks on certain people and everyone follows.

They both go UP & DOWN in weight, I looked at photos of Beyonce BIG and THIN yet they never mention it, but they attack Britney if she gained 5lbs

Why is it okay for Beyonce to be big and not for Britney?!

Who Do You Dress For?

licari
licari Jan 17, 2012

If you take a look at fashionistas they are usually the ladies wearing the bold outfits, things most girls would not step out of their comfort zone to wear. As a designer, I have a love and an eye for all things beautiful, I appreciate women who dress for FASHION and not for men.

Most girls dress for others and not for themselves. They want to either be SEXY and show skin, for attention from men or for a certain group they want to fit in with 'hipster' 'rocker' 'preppy' and so on.

These ladies have the figure to wear any kind of fashion yet you never see them wearing skin tight 'club attire' you see them in true couture. They are always tasteful and put together from head to toe :

Look at the difference in dressing for men, trying to show off every inch of your body without being naked. It looks like the opposite of fashion to me. It also looks so typical, like any girl can go out and dress like this:

Who do you dress for?

Golden Globes: Best & Worst Red Carpet Looks

licari
licari Jan 13, 2012

Award show season is here! I will be dressing so many ladies for the red carpet for pre parties, after parties and red carpet events! As well as attending a lot of the events myself. This weekend is all about the Golden Globes (: I'm so excited for the gifting suites going on today and tomorrow. I will be sure to snap lots of photos to share with you. So in honor of the Golden Globes here are a few of my all time favorite and....least favorite red carpet looks.

I am in love with the two toned dress, it looks so flattering on her! Everything is so put together from earrings to hair/makeup.

Every girl would feel gorgeous in this sequin number! It is such a fun almost fairy like dream dress.

IN LOVE with this blue dress. It could not be anymore perfect on her. Her hair is to die for and I think off the shoulder dresses are so sexy yet very classy.

I hate doing this but, now for the worst...

I honestly have no words. Everything about this look is so off. The cut of the dress, the color, the shoes.

This blue...thing has to be the most cheap looking garment at the Golden Globes! For one, it does not fit right. When a dress on a size 0 girl looks unflattering, you have major issues. The sequin detail is so awful and tacky. Oh- and whats up with the 90's slit??

Saved the worst for last...

I don't know if she picked this out, or maybe her stylist? Or her grandmother? Whoever put this on her has no taste or concept of fashion. This is by far the worst thing on the carpet.

Did you agree with my selections? I'm excited to see who wears what this year! (:

Best and Worst Maternity Looks

licari
licari Jan 07, 2012

pregnancy is such a beautiful thing....sometimes.

Check out my list of best and worst dresses pregnant celebs!

ALL TIME WORST THING:

this is such a mess, for obvious reasons

Tasteful way to wear a little black dress:

So sloppy and messy looking:

even dressed up for an event (on the right)

I think she is showing too much skin

Put together and coverd up is the way to go:

Duff looks sooo frump =[ I'm such a fan but her dress fits all wrong :

I think it's just awful to show a bunch of skin when you are preggie, unless you're at the beach- COVER UP!

I should really create a maternity line so there can be fun stylish dresses and outfits in maternity wear

Would You Go Under the Knife?

licari
licari Jan 05, 2012

I personally feel plastic surgery is wrong.

However- there are certain circumstances where I do agree it is 100% okay. I think risking your life, going under the knife just for something so superficial is unnecessary and sad.

Getting procedures done for reasons such as reconstructive surgery from cancer, burns, or accidents is obviously not the type of plastic surgery I'm talking about.

I have friends & family who have had procedures done such as nose jobs, boob jobs, and liposuction and I feel like the the society we live in today we all expect perfection.

God made us all perfect and beautiful in our own way.

I think some people get surgery done because they feel unhappy with their looks but I also feel like they want to be accepted and are unhappy with how others view them.

Is it really worth putting your life in someones hands to "fix" something that is not even broken?

The anesthesiologist is more than just the person who controls pain during the procedure. He or she is responsible for keeping your blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen level at the proper levels and for resuscitating you if something goes wrong. In the best of all worlds, you have seen your primary care provider prior to the day of surgery and been medically cleared. But it's up to the anesthesiologist to reassess your condition and, if needed, cancel the procedure.

I'm such a big fan of Ashlee Simpson, I think she was gorgeous before getting her nose done. I actually feel like it took away character for her face.

Miss Tisdale, was it really needed?

I think it's degrading to get HUGE fake boobs. If you're born with em, awesome...there is nothing better than natural beauty.

I feel like girls out there need to love themselves and know that we are all born with so many different physical qualities- and there is no definition of beauty! Life is so short as it is, why not embrace who we are?

Plastic surgery can also be addicting, never feeling like you are perfect and always wanting to change yourself can lead to horrible results.

You can see that she not only got her boobs done, but her hips, face, and entire overall appearance!! Yikes.

Once you alter yourself, there is no going back...no undo button.

What are your views? Do you think it's a good thing, a bad thing? Would you personally change anything on your body? I would love to hear what you feel!

Li Cari Fitting With Molly Marlette

licari
licari Jan 04, 2012

Recording Artist Molly Marlette came into my showroom today for a dress to wear for her upcoming show this weekend! I got to chat with her a little about music and fashion, here is what she had to say :

How would you describe your personal style?

Ginger Rogers meets the Jetsons.

How do you think fashion and music go hand in hand?

The are both forms of self exprression. When sight meets sound it completes the idea. For me at least.

Who's your favorite designer?

Li Cari (of course!), Valentino, MiuMiu, Jen Awad

How would you describe your music?

Well my influences range from Gershwin to Simon & Garfunkel...so, a theatrical MGM movie played on guitar.

I had her try on a few different dresses to have her looking stage ready for her big show! Out of these looks what do you think she picked out? What do you think looked best on Molly?

LOOK 1:

LOOK 2:

LOOK 3:

I'm not telling what she picked out yet ;) I want to see how many of you are correct! I will post photos of her on stage in Li Cari this weekend after her show.
