FASHION IS ART.

I really love how the fashion industry can connects with music and art. During this journey I have met so many amazing creative people. For my runway shows I select the music that sets the tone and mood of the event, it is SOOO important to pick music that helps tell the story of my collection. For my LA Fashion Week show I had very relaxing lounge type music for the runway and I also collaborated with an AMAZING artist named Daniel Maltzman his paintings are insane. The entire venue where my show was held was covered in his artwork. Some of the art was abstract and it matched the colors in my collection. Daniel also custom painted 3 huge pictures for my show! 2 of me and 1 of the Li Cari models! it was where the girls walked out of and onto the runway! It was really exciting getting to go to his studio and see all his work and see the paintings at my show.

the model in the center is Khristynne! She is the face of my clothing label and i <3 her.

here is what it looked like at the showw.you can see both of the paintings of me on the sides and the one of the models in the middle. Khristynne was the first girl out on the runway and she was standing in the same pose as she was in the painting

Daniel Maltzman is such a great artist. He has painted custom pictures for BRITNEY SPEARS! Here she is with her painting

He has also done this for Paris Hilton on her birthday  and for Angelina Jolie and it is such an honor that he did the same for ME! Every year the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles has a special event for kids that have/had cancer. =[  It's at paramount studios in Hollywood & they give away toys and even put on a concert! They have tons of activities and great food! The Childrens Hospital of LA does an amazing job of giving all the kids and their family a fun & exciting day to remember.This year I was asked to come be a part of the event :) It was such a great experience, I got to meet so many sweet,cute,amazing kids <3 Here are a few pictures of my day taking photos and signing pictures for the kids!

I'm so happy I got to be a part of this special day :) I hope to do it again next year!

I wanted to share the part of my job that you don't always get to see! Most people think being a Fashion Designer is all fun and glamourous but it gets crazy and hectic behind the scences :]

being organized is the key to making things run smooth!! that means making sure each piece of clothing is in the right order on the rack backstage during a runway show. I use numbers & names for each article of clothing to keep track of everything! My collections have at least 26 looks so that means each model has to change a few times during the show. This picture below is from my NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SHOW the girl with the clip bord is a Li Cari intern helping me make sure things go back in order after the models are fitted.

another hectic part of my job is CASTING models! I have to interview hundreds of girls watch them walk and pick the girls that would represent the Li Cari label in the best way :) This means I have to turn some girls down :( & that is very hard for me to do since they are all so lovely. I love having Morgan help me out with the castings, she knows what I look for in Li Cari models and together we look over all the submisions.

It gets SO CRAZYYY when the models have to change REEEALLLY fast backstage! They have to dart back from the runway and change into their next look! They have to RRUUSHHH back and grab the next look but they always have girls to help them get into the next outfit in time before they have to be back out on the catwalk!!

The HAIR & MAKEUP team is working non-stop to make sure all the models look PERFECT before the runway! I LOVE using paul mitchell products to make sure the girls look amazing!since hair & makeup is an important part of making the girls look runway ready I make sure to have tons of the paul mitchell hair spray at hand haha :)

Since this is my firrssst note on buzznet  :] :] :] I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself!

My name is Jazmin Whitley, I'm a FASHION designer && my clothing line is called Li Cari

I was the youngest designer to ever show at both New York Fashion week  and LA Fashion week. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing job that I have SOO much fun doing. I do everything from creating new collections for every season, to photoshoots && dressing celebs for the red carpet. I would have to say that the RUNWAY shows are the best part of my job! It's when everyone gets to see all my hard work: editors,buyers,celebs,friends & family! It looks sooo glamorous and fun but it gets insanly hectic and crazy backstage.

I also get to meet sooo many amazing people along the way! The picture above is from my LA Fashion Week spring/summer 2009 runway show. KHRISTYNNE is the model in the picture,she is also now one of my best friends. We met at a photoshoot a few years ago and have been working together ever since!! :)  another person I work with is Morgan Weirich. She is another one of my BEST FRIENDS<3 she coordinates things backstage at all my fashion shows. we do everything together from: casting models,styling photoshoots,to going to events and she also hosts most of my fashion shows! We have endless amounts of adventures together haha NEVER a dull moment! This is a picture of Morgan & I at a model casting in NEW YORK. oooh, by the way we LOVE New York! New York is soo gorgeous.

The next time you go to New York you should dance in the middle of time square with all your friends. It's really fun.

VERY EXCITING NEWS! I had a photoshoot for my new collection called "nautical meets neon" the other day and have some amazing pictures for either angeleno magazine or malibu magazine not sure yet. Sophia is the photog I worked with on the shoot and she is SO great! she is also very young && working on big stuff. :) yayy. Our entire team that day was really young,now that I think about it. haha. even the hairstylist and makeup artist! I shot with 2 models Amanda and Hanna Beth. Both really sweet girls. here is a look at our day:
