My Interview with the Star Scoop

HEY LOVES,

here is an interview I did with THE STAR SCOOP! I Just wanted to share it with you so you can get to know me a little better<3

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about what you do and how you got involved with fashion.

Jazmin Whitley:

I design women's apparel. I started in high school. Ever since then people ask me to make them one of my pieces, and I have personal clients that ask me to design the pieces. Then, ever since then I would make them pieces and then people see my clothes and ask, oh, who's that by, or if I was wearing it, oh who made that, and I would say, oh I made it. When I would wear them to parties and events, people would ask me to make them pieces.

The Star Scoop:

You started in high school. What do you think was the key to you being successful at such a young age?

Whitley:

Well, I started taking classes in high school. My high school had fashion design class, and when I found out I was interested, I signed up for that class right away. Once I took that class, I said, wow, I really want to do this. During my summer vacations, when I would travel, I would take fashion classes. I would travel to Brazil or Italy, and I would study fashion. Once I knew that it was what I really wanted to do, I put everything in and I started working on it already.

The Star Scoop:

How would you describe what your fashion style is?

Whitley:

It changes. I think my style is really girly and feminine. I love classic glamour, old Hollywood looking. I love lace.

The Star Scoop:

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

Whitley:

It depends if I have someone in mind, and I'm making something for one person, then I'll have them. If I'm just creating my collection, I'll get my inspiration from everything. I love traveling, since it really inspires me and opens my eyes to different cultures.

The Star Scoop:

Is there someone in particular you would love to see one of your designs on, if the opportunity ever presented itself?

Whitley:

Oh, gosh. I would love to dress Nicole Kidman. She's so classic Hollywood glamour, and so gorgeous. I would love to dress her.

The Star Scoop:

Oviously as a designer, you can make clothes for yourself. But if you're going out shopping, what kind of places do you like to go to?

Whitley:

I never go shopping. It's so funny. But I love American Apparel. It's so fun shopping there. Also, when I'm shopping too, I know what goes into the whole productioin of the clothing, and I'll read all the labels. If it's made in a country that's overseas and doesn't support child labor laws, it's hard for me, because I don't support that, so I wouldn't buy a garment made somewhere like that.

The Star Scoop:

Now you're probably used to getting exposure. But what was it like early on, having that first person ask you to make something?

Whitley:

It was so exciting. Actually, I designed a gown for Aimee Teegarden for an event that she had. It was just so exciting to see her wear it on the red carpet. She looked so glamorous and I was so proud and I was so excited. It was funny because I was shopping at the grocery store and I picked up a [magazine], and I was flipping through it and then I saw my dress in there and I saw Aimee wearing it. I screamed inside the grocery store.

The Star Scoop:

What is a misconception about the fashion world of which people should be aware?

Whitley:

I think that when people think of fashion, they don't necessarily think of hard work. They just think of fun and glamour and they don't really think about what goes into it, the different stages of production, making decisions about how you want to go about making your line.

The Star Scoop:

What are you doing currently?

Whitley:

Well right now I'm still just designing women's apparel. I want to do a men's line soon. I'm also working on a project called Catwalk, and it's a TV series and it kind of follows my career and my growth as a designer, and it shows all fun, glamorous things that I get to do and all the stressful, crazy situations.I feel really blessed to be where I am right now.

The Star Scoop:

What goals do you have for your future in fashion?

Whitley:

I just hope to keep learning and growing as a designer, and be successful. I want to see my clothes on more people and not just celebrities, but everyone.

The Star Scoop:

If people are interested in getting your clothes, where can they do that?

Whitley:

Right now, you can shop online at my website and shoplicari.com. I also have my clothing in boutiques in L.A. They're listed on the website

Holiday parrrrrtttayyy!

This week has been so busy for me!! I've been working on my new collection non stop, dressing people for events, and meetings with some big boutiques, so i kinda took a break Last night and was invited to attend the LA direct magazine holiday party at les deux in Hollywood. I love going to LA Direct events! I dressed Brittany Flickinger winner of  the Paris Hilton BFF show. She wore this classic black and white low cut holiday dress from my winter collection :) Here are some photos of her rockinggg the carpet in Li Cari :

She looked VERRYYy chic and classic! I know her style is more 'rocker' but I think she looks gorgeous both ways, dolled up and grunged down. What do you think about the change??

Hope you all have a gorgeous weekend!

Aimee Teegarden loves Li Cari!

Actress AIMEE TEEGARDEN of "Friday Night Lights" loves to wear Li Cari on the red carpet :]

Here are my favorite pictures of her at events in my designs<3

She wore this dress to the T-mobile G1 cell phone launch party. It is a really special dress to me because i made it for my birthday and wore it to my party when I turned 19. When she saw the dress she loved it && I'm so happy we both got to wear it! here she is rocking it on the carpet:

&& here I am in the dress on my birthday! :)

The next one on my list is the brown and gold dress that she wore to the Teen Choice Awards PRE party! I loved the colors on her. It was so fun for the summer & it was a perfect fit! wooo

I also think Aimee looked super cute at the T-mobile Sidekick party! She wore my simple black and white tube top dress,it really made her stand out:

Another cute look was the navy blue nautical dress Aimee wore the the Target party. I was so excited to have her show this one off because it was from my new collection!

One of the most chic looks was the all white net top dress she wore to a Fred Segal event! I really loved this dress on Aimee :) This is very much my personal style chic, elegant and smart:

AND! last, but definatly NOT least is the oh-so classic LITTLE BLACK DRESS with the big belt

When I see my designs on the red carpet it always brings me so much excitment,I love when my dresses come to life on and off the carpet! I hope you liked this as much as I do<3 haha

WHAT DRESS WAS YOUR FAVORITE FROM THIS LIST?

XOXO

Jazmin Whitley

PS you can shop online to get your hands on a Li Cari dress as well! www.shoplicari.com don't miss the holiday SALE
